Our Student Branch is comprised of six IEEE
Societies:
IEEE Communications Society
IEEE Communications
Society embraces the science, technology and applications
supporting the transfer and organization of information, of
diverse media types and formats, through communication networks
and channels.
IEEE Computer Society
The IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter
was founded in the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus in
the year 1994. Today the chapter has over 100 student members
and is one of the most active societies inside our branch in
terms of activities and events.
IEEE Circuits and Systems Society
The Circuits And Systems Society is an IEEE Technical Society
whose main objective is to serve and prepare students to become
tomorrow's leaders. The society focuses in the areas of
circuits, systems, electronics, and embedded systems design.
Furthermore, it promotes interdisciplinary activities among
other IEEE Technical Societies with the objective of enrich the
professional and social qualities of its members.
IEEE Control and Systems Society
The IEEE Control System Society (CSS) was
founded in 1954 as a scientific, engineering and professional
organization dedicated to the advancement of the theory and
practice of systems and control in engineering. Today, the
Society has more than 10,000 members around the world. The
CSS-UPRM chapter was constituted in 1999, rapidly becoming one
of the most active technical societies on campus.
IEEE Power Engineering Society
The Power Engineering Society is a technical
society within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers. The student chapter at the University of Puerto Rico
in Mayagüez is the second IEEE technical society to be founded
in the University. It started the first semester of the 1998-99
academic year. Some professors were cooperative since the
beginning and Dr. Agustín Irizarry was chosen as the first
society's main advisor.
IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group
The IEEE Women in Engineering Society was
funded in September, 2005 by an interdisciplinary group of
engineering students. It administers the Student-Teacher
